Procedure to Link PAN Card with EPF Account or UAN Online

Keep your UAN number and password ready and log in asunder. Make sure your UAN is activated before linking procedure.

  1. Login to EPFO member portal. Click here to login.
  2. Enter your UAN number and password for login.
  3. Click the option to KYC. You can locate it in the Manage drop down.
  4. Now you will see a list of various documents of identity. The list will contain election card, PAN card, aadhar, driving licence etc.
  5. Check the box of PAN card and select from the list.
  6. Now click the ‘save’ button. Upload and submit the scanned document for verification.
  7. Once your PAN is saved, it will verified through the NSDL PAN portal.
  8. After KYC document is approved, your PAN will be linked with your EPF.

Once it is linked, you will see a status as ‘verified’ against your PAN details in the KYC section.

Is PAN Card Mandatory for PF Withdrawal

PAN is an important financial document in India. It is widely used by IT department of India to ensure transparency in financial transactions. PAN card is also a tool to curb hawala and other financial frauds.

In the absence of PAN, you might face problem in withdrawing your EPF amount. If you submit PAN details, you can save TDS on the PF withdrawal amount.

As per the current rule, if any employee withdraws an amount less than Rs. 50,000 with PAN (for service period less than 5 years), TDS is not applicable. If you have linked your EPF account with PAN, TDS will be deducted at 10% for amount more than Rs. 50,000 and service period is less than 5 years. However, if you have not linked your PF with PAN, the TDS will be applied at 34.60*% for the same conditions.

Thus, TDS is deducted at the rate of maximum marginal rate (34.608) if you do not provide Form 15G or 15 H or PAN card. Form 15G and Form 15H are income declaration while receiving PF. Senior citizens need to submit form 15H. While individuals below 60 need to submit form 15G for withdrawing PF.
